Work Experience

Work Experience and experiences of the workplace is an important step in introducing our students to the workplace and the employability skills and attitudes required by employers for success. It is also a great opportunity for students to ‘test’ out any career ideas and gain an insight first hand into their prospective careers and gain realistic ‘career checks’. A meaningful placement often will give students confidence and a new approach to their studies, with set career goals. Work Experience in person placements for Year 10 and Year 12 students will be taking place from 6th to 10th July 2026 and all students in these year groups are expected to partake. Our work experience approach aims to meet all our students’ needs and ensure all students have equal access to good workplace experiences (including work shadowing, mentoring, insight days, talks etc), whether they be virtual or face to face. If you are an employer and can offer a week long work experience placement to a student, please contact szajac@gosfordhillschool.org for more information. Students in the past have successfully secured full time and part time job opportunities after being out on a placement.

Students can book a one to one careers appointment with Mrs Zajac for support with finding a placement via the careers booking system in school.

Year 12

In the Sixth Form, there is an opportunity for students to undertake work experience during Year 12. It is recommended that work experience is linked to students’ career aspirations and intended pathways. It is particularly useful for students applying for vocational degrees at university e.g., Veterinary Science, Medicine, Nursing and Teaching. It is also helpful for those students seeking a Level 3 or L6 degree apprenticeship or other employment opportunities after their A Level studies.

Virtual work experience opportunities are available all year round (out of school hours and in holidays) with companies and students are encouraged to register on sites and manage their own virtual work experiences to help them make informed decisions on pathways after school and help their CVs and personal statements stand out in the backdrop of a competitive youth labour market post-Covid.
