When we return to school it will be week: A
GCSE and Progress at KS4 is measured using exam board criteria. When reporting progress, we use predicted grades. A predicted grade is what a teacher thinks a student will achieve (assuming that their GCSE exams go ahead as planned) when they sit their GCSE exams in the summer term, based on their current performance and the professional judgement of their teachers.
At Gosford Hill School, FFT20 target grades are used to indicate the expected level of attainment at the end of a GCSE course. This is calculated externally by the Fischer Family Trust based on a variety of socio-economic factors and KS2 (primary school) performance.
If a student achieves their FFT20 score, this means that their progress is in line with the top 20% of similar students nationally. These targets are therefore generally quite ambitious, which is why we are using them for your child.
Reports to parents at KS3 all contain an effort grade, which is a reflection of both student behaviour in lessons as well as the effort that has gone into the work that they have produced.
An effort grade will be one of the following judgements:
Homework is also reported on, reflecting both homework completion and the standard of work completed. A homework grade will be one of the following judgements:
At Gosford Hill School we have high standards. The criteria for ‘Good’ is therefore that students actively participate and work hard in lessons, they meet homework deadlines and they are focused on their work throughout their lessons.
Parents and carers of students in Year 10 receive a report with a KS4 target grade, a predicted grade, an effort grade and a homework grade in both the autumn and spring terms. In the summer term, parents and carers will receive a report with an additional mock exam grade, alongside the other grades.
Parents and carers of students in Year 11 receive a report in the autumn, spring and summer terms. Each of these has a KS4 target grade, a predicted grade, an effort grade and a homework grade. The autumn and spring reports will also contain a mock examination grade from the latest round of mock examinations.
