    Extra-curricular

Extra-curricular Activities at Gosford Hill School

At Gosford Hill School, we are proud of the range of extra curricular activities that we offer our students. As an 11-19 school, we are proud to offer extra-curricular activities to all year groups, including those who study with us for Sixth Form. Gosford Hill School is a part of the River Learning Trust, through which we have also engaged with inter-school extra-curricular competitions.

Below you will find some information about some of the extra-curricular activities we run in school.

    PALS Drop In Sessions

We are very proud of our group of Sixth Form students who have been trained as Peer Listeners by our school counsellor. They run drop in sessions and games clubs in the Library during lunch breaks each week, to provide a drop in session for students who want to access some additional support or a friendly listening ear.

    Languages Clubs

The language department offer a number of language clubs, including both French and German clubs. Students have the opportunity to practice their language skills, extend their vocabulary, engage in games and competitions using their modern foreign language skills.

    Music Clubs

The music department offers a range of extra-curricular activities including Soul Band and our Junior Orchestra. We are also pleased to welcome students from a number of Kidlington Primary Schools to work with members of our staff and a number of our students, as part of the Kidlington Schools Brass Band.

    School Production

Every year Gosford Hill School puts on a whole school production which incorporates students from all year groups. The audition process starts in September and rehearsals take place several days after school in the school hall. The production is a wonderful opportunity to mix with people from all ages and step out of your comfort zone. Whether you want to sing, dance, act, play in the band or create and paint the set there is something for everyone. The production takes place in the Summer term.

    Sports Clubs

We offer a diverse range of extra-curricular sports clubs, run by our PE department as well as a number of external providers.

    Catch Up Clubs

We offer a number of catch up clubs across the week for students who might need extra time, support or access to specific materials across a range of subjects. Some clubs run throughout the year, but others occur closer to exams. Additional intervention and catchup timetables are circulated to the relevant year groups.

    Duke of Edinburgh Award

We offer students in Year 10 and above the opportunity to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Awards whilst at school. Students have the opportunity to complete the award at the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, and as part of the award scheme, complete a personal programme of activities in four sections:

    • Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community.
    • Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities.
    • Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests.
    • Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad.

    Other Extra-curricular Activities

A large number of students complete a range of extra-curricular activities outside of school, and we are incredibly proud of everything that they achieve. We support where possible, and celebrate their successes as a school. These are shared on the school’s social media (Facebook, Bluesky and Instagram) as well as being celebrated in school. We are thrilled that this year, this includes students who have:

    • Entered local and national competitions
      • We have students training to represent Team GB and as part of the future Olympics training programmes, as well as competing in local and national competitions for a range of sports.
      • We have students participating in a range of musical activities outside of school, including Oxford County Musical groups, as well as National Competitions such as ‘The Voice’.
      • Students entering into local, national and international mathematics olympiads.
    • Raised significant funds for local, national and international charities.
    • Attended international camps as a representative of local Scouts and Guide groups.
